Grape Tomato = 방울 토마토?

미투데이 친구(일명 미친)인 철수님의 포스팅을 보니 방울토마토가 Grape Tomato 라고 적혀있었다.

불신으로 가득한 나의 성격상 확인을 해보고 싶었다.

전 국민의 검색포탈(절대로 엔진이 아니다) 네이버의 사전을 이용해봤다.

영어사전에서는 Grape와 Tomato를 각각 연결해준다.

그래도 백과사전에는 나타나길래 링크를 눌러봤더니 Wikipedia로 연결해준다.

(역시 명확한 정보를 보고 싶을 떄는 Wikipedia가 진리인가보다.)

그래서 Wikipedia의 내용을 인용해보면

A grape tomato is a class of tomatoes originally believed to be of southeast Asian origin, shaped similarly to the oblong plum tomatoes but having the small size and sweetness of cherry tomatoes. Grape tomatoes produce small and typically oblong fruits. 호기심만 늘었다. 

plum tomato는 무엇이란 말인가? 또 cherry tomato는?

다 찾아본 결과 쉽게 줄여보자면,

plum tomato = 일반 토마토(가공용?)

cherry tomato = 간식거리 및 샐러드용 작~은 토마토. grape tomato라고 알려지기도 했다고...???

이렇게 결론 지으면 될 것 같다.

결국 우리가 먹는

방울 토마토 = grape tomato = cherry tomato

아닐까?

(그럼 마트에서 파는 체리 토마토는 또 뭐지??? 당도가 훨씬 높던데...)

Cherry Tomato와 Grape Tomato는 모양으로 구분한다고 하네요.

Grape Tomato - 동글동글한 모양의 방울토마토

이렇게 구분해주시면 될 듯 합니다.
